Location of Word Backup Files

Allow backgound saves is enabled.

I have "Save AutoRecover info" set ot every 10 minutes.

I was working with two Word docements and somehow I
replaced thirty pages of text in one document with 40
pages of text from another unimportant document. Needless
to say I've been modifying the 30 pages are the crucial
pages. Can I retrieve one of the backup copies or I am in
deep trouble with a Federal judge.

Thanks,

Ed

You had better pack your toothbrush. Unless you have the 'always create
backup option' set in tools > options > save and you have not saved twice,
you have almost certainly lost the changed text.

If you have not closed the document, since the mistake, you can use undo to
return it to how it was before. CTRL+Z can save your bacon, but not if you
close the document.

Word's autorecover function is only of benefit if Word crashes - and then
often not of as much benefit as you might like.

Thanks for the prompt response. Ctrl+Z did not work. I
closed Word and searched for a Latin phrase that was in
only 11 other briefs. It found the eleven other
documents. For a variety of reasons I felt it prudent to
create this one in Word. I have been using WordPerfect
since 1984. I regret not creating this brief in WP.

Thanks, again

Just do the occasional save. Save if you can't rememmber the last time
you saved. Be additionally prudent by saving each time with a
differnent version name, e.g. name_of_file_ver1.doc,
name_of_file_ver1.doc. Be even more prudent and check in/out of a
document management system. And always, to protect, yourself against
disk corruption and file corruption ... take backups.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
