Local User restrictions

I have a stand-alone computer with Win XP Media Centre. As an Administrator,
I created a limited account for me to use regularly (recommended within the
Help information), and a guest account for others.

Unfortunately, the Internet Security Suite software runs programs that
require files to be changed (creation of logs, registry changes, and
quarantining of 'pests'). The limited and guest account will not allow this,
and I have looked through the Help and computer management literature,
without determining whether it is possible to change the restrictions for the
limited and guest account. I presume that I may need to create users under
the 'Power Users' group, but at this point I am lost and require some
assistance.

Thanks,
Jamie

How should I proceed?

Your computer is the same as mine, and I also have a similar problem--I
cannot access items like "properties" on the start button when it is
right-clicked, among other things. I will be interested to see what answer
the experts can give you in hopes it will solve one of my problems with this
new computer. I have placed all the various groups into my log-in account,
incl. administrator, power user, etc etc and the same message comes up "This
operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.
Please contact your system administrator." If I am the only person using the
computer, and have all the permissions offered, what is the next step?

When running that program you will probably need to logon as an
administrator account. Some applications and tasks require an administrator
and there is no work around. However those applications and tasks should not
interfere with your normal daily use of the computer but only when you need
to run them. Often when you need to run an application that requires
administrator credentials rather than logging off you current user account
you can right click the application icon and see if runas is shown as an
option and if it is select it, select the following user, and enter a user
account that is a local administrator and the password and that program will
run as that account. --- Steve
