Local Printing Using From Remote Host?

T

Tom

Hi, how can I print locally data from a remote host using XP Pro on both PCs
and Remote Desktop over a VPN connection. I noticed on the client PC I
still have printers from a remote host but I forgot how to configure
printing locally except Remote Desktop\Options\Local resources\Printers. I
need to print locally from a different Remote Desktop PC.

Help.

Thanks,

Mike

When you setup the RDP connection on client PC, (or edit an old one)
you set it on the 'local resources' tab. There is a place to set the
devices to use in the connection. Printers is one.
I'm looking at the new screen in SP3. But its been there in some form
in older versions.

I did that but I had to do something else I thought before the local
printers show up in Printers and Faxes.

Also, there was a bug (or I call it one) in XP SP2, that you could not
use a printer on the client during a RDP connection that is not LPT1,
COM, or USB.
ie, My laptop does not have a printer. So I share one on my desktop in
the house. Now when I connect to the office, I can't see that printer
on my laptop. There is a registry patch to fix that situation, but SP3
might have fixed it. Not sure.

I think this addresses the issue.

Or if you want just copy these lines to a file called remote.reg and
then double click it, and it will install for you. Everything between
the ----'s
-----------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server
Client\Default\AddIns\RDPDR]
"FilterQueueType"=dword:ffffffff

I'll try it but I didn't have to do it last year. I curious observation.
In a test set up today. The local MS Image Writer showed up in printerts
and faxes on the remote PC but the printer connected to LPT 1 on the local
client PC didn';t show up. I also remeber I had to install the local
printer driver on the remote host but don't remember how I had to do it.

I never had an issue with any physically local LPT printers. They
always seemed to map over properly.
Our office had one of those huge printers in the middle of the office
and everyone shared it. Thus every PC had this problem that KB302361
addresses. But if you have an LPT1 printer, KB302361 is not your issue.
Have fun.

My printer is LPT1. The networked printers mapped to my PC show up in
Printers and Faxes on the remote host but not the printer connected to LPT1.

Well that's just the opposite to the KB fix. So its something else.
Odd. Maybe it is drivers. I've only had HP local printers in any RDP
situation, so they are well supported by all OS's and maybe that's a hint.

Hang in, there may be more responses. I've just blown my wad on this
problem.

Here's the scoop. TS admin tells me printing is disabled on the Terminal
Server.
changed User acct to admin / users Logged onto the local PC as ADMIN,
connected cisico VPN, loogged on the Remote Desktop/TS
no printers on local PC are visible. Manually mapped local printer to TS.
Talked to the TS Admin who told me printing was

From home I log onto VPN/RD/ my pc at work. My local printers are visible.
