Local links

I've created a website which has links to file types other
than htm (pdf and excel mainly.

Everything works fine if you view the site on the internet
but I had to make local copy on my hard disk to
demonstrate the site where there wasn't a telephone
connection.

All the html pages linked together perfectly but the links
to the local pdf and excel files didn't do anything.
However on transferring the site to another pc, the links
work perfectly.

Why don't the links work on some pcs and not others and
work 'live' but not a local copy? The only pattern I've
noticed so far is that the pc's that haven't worked are
Windows 2000 machines whereas it has worked on a 98 and xp
mahcine.

Aaargh!

Could this be the issue?

Cannot Open a .pdf File with the File:// Protocol If the Address Contains a
"#" Character
For example, the problem may occur with Web addresses that have the
following format:
file:// servername/ sharename/ filename.pdf#location
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322918

And when working off line make sure that your path to your .pdf files are
correct.
