Local administrator, log on as a service

I am trying to install software which needs that local administrator -account
has assigned to log on as a service. I have win 2000 pro.

I went Administrative tools--> Local security policy-->Local policies-->User
rights assignment --> Log on as a service --> added administrator, but
"Effective policy setting" -box remains empty.

Could someone tell me what is wrong.

IS this machine a domain member? Any policies set at the domain level that
redefine "log on as a service" privilege?

If this is a non domain computer the local setting will become the effective setting.
Though often settings will appear right away on a non domain computer after opening
and closing Local Security Policy it may help to reboot. Using the Security
Configuration and Analysis mmc snapin tool is the sure way to see if the setting is
implemented. See the link below on how to use it.

If it is a domain computer then other policy/GPO is overriding the local policy. If
you use the gpresult support tool you can run it to see what computer policies are
being applied to the computer of which any but local could be enforcing the
olicy. -- Steve
