Local Admin RIghts

Basically it makes you God over the machine. You can add
local users, load software, take ownership of files, set
directory permissions etc. etc..
Very dangerous from an administrator's perspective.

Forgive my ignorance but I'm in a situation where I need
to justify having local admin rights. Having always had
them wherever I've worked I'm uncertain as to what I'd
lose permission-wise without them. Can someone point me to
or briefly outline what local admin rights grants me?
