"Loading data, please wait..." does not work, or hangs the entire

Once I have logged on with user name and password, the box "Loading data,
please wait..." comes up and continues to display. It appears to be trying to
load because the (...) periods after the word wait are flashing. I don't
think it loads any user data because it just hangs there like that. There
are four user Id's and they all do the same thing. I am able to work around
this stall in all programs and applications, as far as I can tell. I am
using Windows XP. The most recent download I did was Macromedia Flash.
Please help
