Click the Start button, "Set program access and defaults", click the
down arrows to the right of "Custom", change the "default e-mail
program" to "Outlook Express", and click OK.

Are you referring to the application named Windows Live Mail? If you are,
do you ever use it or would you like to get rid of it?

Assuming the attachments you're referring to are EML files, making Outlook
Express (OE) your default Mail Client again should correct the behavior such
that EML files open in OE:

1. See http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx; then see...

2a. http://www.oehelp.com/oelnk.aspx and/or...

2b. Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program
Access and Defaults | Click on the downward-pointing arrows to the right of
the configuration that's already checked | Email: Select "Outlook Express"
here (not "Use my current...").

Perhaps he doesn't want to remove WLMail?

perhaps, your right.

but he did use the
word "remove" in
his question.

If he's been accessing a POP3 account in Windows Live Mail and has not
enabled the "Leave messages on server" option, there may be messages in
WLMail that he wants to have in OE. If he removes WLMail, those messages
will be deleted.

I had the same problem! <G> I went into folder options and just clicked on
the default button and my file association for EML, etc. was restored to
Outlook Express! I struggled with this but finally got answers from the
lovely folks here! Thank goodness you ARE here!

Dear heart - I was testing it with scripted stationery, that's why <G>

Found many deficiencies with WLM in that genre. And I didn't like the way
WLM took over my computer installing stuff I didn't want in spite of my
clicking NO on installing them. OK? <G>

NB: If what I post in this reply doesn't help, you'd best start a new thread
in the Windows Live Mail-specific newsgroup for further assistance, HG.
Here's a link:
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...dg=microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

==================

1. Click on the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/3/0/23036331-516d-4c7e-b9ac-31554a2fec06/wl-beta-remove.zip

2. Right-click on the saved file (wl-beta-remove.zip) and select EXTRACT
ALL.

3. Open the new desktop folder named 'wl-beta-remove'

4. Right-click on the file named 'WL-Beta-remove.cmd' and select OPEN.

5. If a security warning is displayed, select RUN.

6. A Command Prompt window will be displayed while the program is running
and will automatically close when the program is finished.

7. Reboot | Windows Live Mail should no longer be installed.

8. You can now delete the ZIP file (Step #1 above) and the folder (Step #3
above) to the Recycle Bin.

B/C it isn't clearly defined by MS when signing up for a web mail address
which turns out to be LIVE MAIL - which is like a Trojan. I, too, got rid of
every shred of that thing, with your help, but it's not a safe program imho.
It's important to know when our ports are open, and what will be coming in,
as well. LIVE MAIL sucks.

thanks, again all.

That "feedback" is merely another game by MS. Once we've cleaned up our
systems and shed Live, we have no options; if we leave it on we're
irresponsible.
