Live Local

I am unable to activate the add-in for Live local in the advanced options>COM
add-ins for outlook. As a result, I have the location tab in calendar
appointments, but I do not have functionality. This seems to be a recurring
problem, as I have noticed some others have the same problem as well. I
select the add-in, click ok, but when I go back in the add-in has been
deselected. Using XP SP2 and Outlook 2003.

I apologize, it is not, but after seeing this problem posted multiple times
with no proposed solutions, and with Microsoft charging for technical
support, I was hoping it might get noticed and this issue might get resolved.

May I ask the benefit of your post?

Curious,
What other add-ins do you have installed with Windows Live Local for
Outlook? Other add-ins seem to lock this one out a lot.

One approach to get this add-in working for some friends is:

Go to Tools->Options
Select the "Other" tab
Click Advanced Options
Click COM Add-In Manager
Select Windows Live Local for Outlook
Click Remove.
Now Click Add
Browse to <system drive>\program files\windows live local for outlook
Select LEOAddInShim.dll
Ok your way back to the main Outlook window.

Matt,

I had one created by my employer to mark spam items, and another from
Itunes, that I have no idea what it does. I unselected both and then removed
the add-in and added it manually as you instructed, and it now works. Thank
you for your help.

Glad that worked for you Court! I noticed this morning that there's a new
version of the add-in available at http://outlook.maps.live.com
I also noticed it works better in Outlook 2007, I'm just starting to check
it out now.

When I go to Tools, Trust Center, Add-ins, and at the bottom where it says
Apply macro security setting to installed add-ins, Manage is set to COM
Add-ins. I click the Go... button. Live Search Map for Outlook has no check
mark. When I check it and click OK it becomes unchecked. The functionality
still does not work in Calendar. Obviously, this is a popular problem Pls
advise.

I am having exactly the same problem with the new download of maps. It looks
like a great feature, but I cannot get it to work. The new version does not
have the folder
-- \program files\windows live local for outlook
or the file LEOAddInShim.dll
It seems to want to go to a file called mscroree.dll. I go to that and try
to install to no avail. It automatically turns the check off in the COM
Add-ins box.
I have disabled the "Trusted Publishers" in the Security tab only to find
the Expiration Date on all to be expired.
Any suggestions or do you need more information?

Yes there really is a Kalamazoo

I did the uninstall, deleted the Extend.dat files, restarted outlook,
verified that the addin was not there. Reinstalled, on the reboot I had to
enable three micros, itunes, backup and maps, and nothing changed. The
location tab appears, the curser is not recognized on the page. I have
windows xp, fully updated and office for teachers and students 2003, again
fully updated.

Version of Outlook and windows?

Uninstall it. find and delete the extend.dat file. restart outlook. verify
the addin is not listed in trust center (outlook 2007) or addins (Outlook
2003). Close outlook and reinstall.

I am having exactly the same problem with the new download of maps. It
looks
like a great feature, but I cannot get it to work. The new version does
not
have the folder
-- \program files\windows live local for outlook
or the file LEOAddInShim.dll
It seems to want to go to a file called mscroree.dll. I go to that and
try
to install to no avail. It automatically turns the check off in the COM
Add-ins box.
I have disabled the "Trusted Publishers" in the Security tab only to find
the Expiration Date on all to be expired.
Any suggestions or do you need more information?

Curious,
What other add-ins do you have installed with Windows Live Local for
Outlook? Other add-ins seem to lock this one out a lot.

One approach to get this add-in working for some friends is:

Go to Tools->Options
Select the "Other" tab
Click Advanced Options
Click COM Add-In Manager
Select Windows Live Local for Outlook
Click Remove.
Now Click Add
Browse to <system drive>\program files\windows live local for outlook
Select LEOAddInShim.dll
Ok your way back to the main Outlook window.

I apologize, it is not, but after seeing this problem posted multiple
times
with no proposed solutions, and with Microsoft charging for technical
support, I was hoping it might get noticed and this issue might get
resolved.

May I ask the benefit of your post?

How is this a suggestion?

After furious head scratching, Court asked:

| I am unable to activate the add-in for Live local in the advanced
| options>COM add-ins for outlook. As a result, I have the location
| tab in calendar appointments, but I do not have functionality. This
| seems to be a recurring problem, as I have noticed some others have
| the same problem as well. I select the add-in, click ok, but when I
| go back in the add-in has been deselected. Using XP SP2 and Outlook
| 2003.
