listing too big in programs list

Clicking the start button in XP and then clicking All Programs the list I
now get of all programs is too big and many do not fit on the screen. I don't
know how this happened (kids were using the computer) but cannot find how to
get it back to a maneageable size. Help Please?

Select Start/Right click and select Properties, click the Start Menu tab,
next click 'Customize' and Advanced and scroll down the list and make sure
that 'Scroll Programs' is unchecked and apply this change.

Columns are as wide as the longest entry. You may be able to shrink the
width enough to return to column selection by renaming long entries to
something shorter.
