listen to audio from USB and headset port at the same time?

I have a USB headset I can use for phonecalls or listening to audio. We are
about to take a long flight and I was hoping we both could listen to the
audio of a DVD on my laptop. But it appears that only one of the USB audio
or the normal headset will work at a time.

Does anyone know a way so that audio can be heard from both outputs at the
same time? is it just an option in the control panel somewhere? or a plug in
I need to download?

Far easier to get one of the "headphone splitter" adaptors
at Radio Shack (allows two headsets to be plugged into
a single 3.5 mm stereo jack).
