Linux nforce 4 sata raid 0

Hey guys,

I am currently running an AMD 64 939 3500+ system with an ASUS A8N-SLI
Deluxe MB. I have 2 x 120GB Raided SATA HDD's, 2 x 512 of RAM Dual
Channel, 1 x Winfast 6600GT GC.

I was asking about a Linux distro in another group to suit my computer
and people suggested the fedora Core 4, had a look downloaded the 5
cd's and was getting ready to install when I received an email that
there was no current distro that he had heard of that supports my
current config because of the nforce 4 chip - specifically the raid
setting.

My question is well can anyone confirm or deny this. I would also like
to run a dual boot. XP - Linux on the same drive(s).

Hello Mike,

I don't have any experience with your exact setup, but I had no problem
with linux on my Abit AV8 with raid 0 2x120 Gb HDD (via raid chip). I
think it will be fine, because the chip takes care of most of the work,
and the OS basically sees one big drive. Linux generally plays well
with SATA.

Give it a try - what have you got to lose.

two on my board, the Nforce 4's and an additional Silicon Image chip) are
configured via the BIOS which indicates that it's hardware RAID in which
case there will be no problem using them in Linux. Linux also has software
RAID which will run on anything but you shouldn't need to use that because
of the hardware RAID chips.

Nvidia provides binary drivers for the NForce chipset which will give you
support for their hardware networking features.

i have the same board and my raid5 on the sil3114 chip is seen as 4
individual drives in knoppix. im not sure about other distros though
