Links that open new windows that don't respond

E

El Benio

When I hit a link that opens a new window, the window
appears - showing the previous window through it - but
nothing else happens.
The cursor shows the egg-timer, but no matter how long I
leave it, nothing fills the window.
Tools bars and menus respond fine. I'm on broadband, so
data clogging isn't an issue and File>New>Window still works.
The parent window still functions while I'm waiting -
hopelessly - for the other one to open.
This problem obviously made it difficult to this, as the
New Post link opens a new window - which does not respond
on my ie6. I had to download Netscape to get this posted.
Please help me get back to ie6.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please follow or check out the methods listed and see if it works.

Method 1:
========
Yahoo Companion can, for some people, stop Ctrl N and 'open in new window'
from working. Uninstall to test.

Method 2: (for URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocols)
=========
1. Close all Programs
2. Open My Computer
3. Click on the menu "Tools", then select "Folder Options"
4. In the Folder Options dialog box, select the tab "File Types"
5. Scroll down to "URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol" as "File Types"
6. Highlight and click on edit, then edit again OR Highlight and click
"Advanced" (Fox XP systems)
7. In the "Edit File Type" dialog box, highlight "open" under the heading
"Actions"
8. Click on the "Edit ..." button
9. Make sure the program used to perform the operation is listed as
follows:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
10. Check to make sure that the path to "iexplore.exe" is correct for your
machine, and make sure you include all quote marks and spaces.
11. Make sure of the following:
a. "Use DDE" checkbox is selected
b. Application is "IExplore"
c. Topic is " WWW_OpenURL "
12. Click OK , OK then Close

Method 2 : (Continued.... for URL:Gopher Protocol)
==========
1. Close all Programs
2. Open My Computer
3. Click on the menu "Tools", then select "Folder Options"
4. In the Folder Options dialog box, select the tab "File Types"
5. Scroll down to "URL:Gopher Protocol" as "File Types"
6. Highlight and click on edit, then edit again OR Highlight and click
"Advanced" (Fox XP systems)
7. In the "Edit File Type" dialog box, highlight "open" under the heading
"Actions"
8. Click on the "Edit ..." button
9. Make sure the program used to perform the operation is listed as
follows:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
10. Check to make sure that the path to "iexplore.exe" is correct for your
machine, and make sure you include all quote marks and spaces.
11. Make sure of the following:
a. "Use DDE" checkbox is selected
b. Application is "IExplore"
c. Topic is " WWW_OpenURL "
12. Click OK , OK then Close

Make sure if you are follwing Method 2, you check out the "URL:Hypertext
Transfer Protocol" and "URL:Gopher Protocol" Files types

Please mention the operating system, service packs installed and the
version of IE to further troubleshoot this issue.

Hope this helps ... :)
