links that open a new window won't open in IE6 SP1

F

F7Interact

Whenever I click on any link that is supposed to open a new window, it
starts to open tha window then hangs. This also happens when I click on
links in Outlook Express, but not Microsoft Outlook.
I'm running Windows XP SP1 with IE6/Outlook Express 6 SP1.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE6 as well as installing
June/July/August cumulative patches for IE6 but problem still persists.
Any suggestions?

.
I am having the same problem. I can not open any links that
open new windows from a web site or from outlook explorer.
But I can go to netscape and open these. I wish someone
would get this fixed soon.

I also have this trouble. I cannot open any web pages from IE6.0 that open
into new windows/pages.... only those that will move to that page through
the same "window". Nor can I open pages through the links in Outlook
Express 6.0. And on top of this I can't open any pages that use JavaScript.
Thought it had to do with installing my new digital camera software, but if
others are having this problem, then maybe one has nothing to do with the
other?!?!

Any ideas out there?

Thanks,
Tami

SFC /SCANNOW (no choices given after this completes to
choose to extract a single file --to replace the
oleaut32.dll file)

I think you are confusing the function of the SFC command
in your OS with the SFC command in Win 9x.

<title>185836 - Description of the System File Checker Tool (Sfc.exe)</title>

For a possible way to get a different version of oleaut32.dll see
the "mcrepair" links in this article:

mcrepair should be a useful keyword to search these newsgroups
via Google Groups in any case.

Good luck

Just conforming one aspect: In IE, tools, internet options, advanced
tab, do you have checked "reuse windows for launching shortcuts"? If
so, uncheck, apply and okay your way out, close IE. Then open IE again
and try opening a new page.

<R> Thanks Maureen, but unfortunately, I checked and it is "unchecked"
.......no go.

I really don't understand.... the only things I have done to my computer
lately are these things: added software for my new Fuji digital camera
(which also doesn't work right... but I think it has it's own issues), and
before that downloaded the updates for IE (which I have since uninstalled
thinking it was the problem). I am left with an IE that I can't open either
Java or JavaScript related items, nor can I open "shortcuts" that are to
open in new windows. I can only paste into new windows manually... really
annoying. I reloaded Java... no help. Getting ready to try loading a Sun
Java, but fear that won't help either. Would it help to uninstall and
reinstall IE? And how do I do that (if that is the answer?) really need to
get this fixed as I have accounts that I cannot get into as they have
JavaScript windows that won't open.... (when right clicking on links, they
say "JavaScript" in the line)\

HELP!!!!

Have you looked in the IE Help menu under repair? (If you named your
operating system, the information is no longer in the thread.) In XP,
it appears the advice is to uninstall and then reinstall via
add\remove, which it warns will result in an earlier version if one
was on the machine.

Win98 has a repair function, also via add\remove. Whether it will help
your situation is another matter, but when I ran Win98 at least it
never made things worse.

Good luck!
