link from outlook email stalls and won't open

When I click a link to a website from an email, the site won't open , then I
have to use task manager to stop it from continuing to try to open it.

Do you get any error messages? Is the link valid and does it work if you
copy and paste into the address bar of a browser?

Have you tried resetting Internet Explorer to be the default browser? (Look
on it's tools, options, programs tab).
