link causing shutdown

With one (legitimate) email newsletter I receive whenever I click on a link
to one of the topics, Outlook immediately and instantly shuts down. When I
restart it there are no "improper shutdown" messages, it usually just starts
up normally; very occasionally the "personal folders...." message comes up
and it checks before opening. This is the only newsletter or any other
link-containing email that does this. On the newsletter website clicking the
link does not cause any problems. according to the newsletter publisher mine
is the only instance of this they have heard of. This just started suddenly
after links working properly for about a year

Windows XP, Office/Outlook 2003 with SP packs and various other updates, and
it happens both IE and Firefox.
