link a file in a shared dirve to a task in Outlook 2003

How do I link a file in a shared drive to a task or email without having to
attach the entire file? I tried inserting an object since there is no link
button in my task or email menu...When I insert an object I can not click on
the object to open the file from it's original location, I can only open a
copy of the file in the email or task window.

Enter it either as a UNC or as a file:// URL.

Thanks Brian. Once I found out what a UNC was I got closer to getting the
problem solved. Unfortunately the use of a UNC does not work when the file
you are trying to link has spaces in its file name..i.e. File name "linkhelp"
works but "link help" does not work. It's to bad there is not a simpler way
to link a file, in the same way you can attach a file to an email or task.
Thanks again.

It should if you enclose it with < and >, like this:

<\\server\share\folder with spaces\folder with spaces>
