line numbering not showing

I have done all the suggestions for trouble shooting line numbering in Word
and I still cannot get it to show up. I am using MS Word 2000 and trying to
add legal style numbering to a document.

Please help!

What view are you in? Line numbers are displayed only in Print Layout view.

One possibility is that the Line Number character style has been formatted
to use hidden text.
