You need to disable the XP firewall only in that connection.

go to start, control panel, network connections, right click local area
connection, properties, uncheck notify me when this connection has limited
or no connectivity.

Go to that connection (in Network Connections), right click on it, Advanced
tab, and disable there the firewall. Maybe it's needed to reboot after that.

You most certainly do NOT need to disable the firewall to overcome
this. In my experience this is because the OS is trying to obtain an
IP address. I've seen it crop up and it's always went away on it's
own, either after waiting a bit or a reboot. I've had it happen at
home and it's ALWAYS been a problem with my router. It's always
resolved and I've never touched the firewall to fix it.

I have the same problem as Websifter. However when I doubleclick on my
Sympatico Access Manager, I have no problem connecting to the Internet. Two
icons show up in the taskbar: the normal Sympatico Access Connection and
another lablled Local Area Connection with a yellow exclamation mark on it
which says "Limited or No Connectivity". Should I disable this one, or will
that cause me to lose my Internet connection? I never had two icons before.

the second icon with exclamation mark is now gone...thanks.
