Lexmark Printer Issue

I've got a PC (Dell) running Windows XP and cannot get the printer (a
Lexmark C524 plugged into my computer with a USB) to work. I've
reinstalled the driver...twice. The printer appears in the list of
printers on the computer and is selected to be the default printer but
it still won't print. I've rebooted and checked and rechecked that
everything is connected, turned on and ready to go. I'm having this
same problem with another computer and a Lexmark E342.

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Does the printer print any of the internal reports? If it does then 95% of the
printer can be assumed to be working.
My suggestion is
Uninstall the printer, unplug the USB cable.
Go to Control Panel, Printers and make sure all copies of the printer are gone,
if not then delete any copies still there. If any will not delete there may be
a print job in the queue which you will need to delete before the printer will
go away. Still in the Printers folder, select File, Server Properties, Drivers.
Select and remove any driver that mentions the printer model.
Make sure the USB cable is still not connected and reboot the PC.
Download the latest driver from the Lexmark web site and install the printer,
do not connect the USB cable until the installer asks you to. See page 10 of
the user guide which can be downloaded from the same site. See how that works.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a go. The printer doesn't print the
internal reports but I'm 99% positive it works. It hasn't had that
much use...I'll let you know how it goes.
