Letter appearing as symbols

I just performed system recovery and all was fine until I added AOL security
and restarted. Now all the desktop icons have symbols instead of letters
under them and my task bars also have symbols where there should be words in
letters. HELP...I have no idea how to get the normal font/letters back on
the system. I have restarted the computer with no luck.

Try Windows System Restore, you will find it in Help and Support.
Otherwise you may have to contact the folks at AOL about their "security
package".
