Launching an Excel file from a shortcut

S

Shelby

I believe that I was able to launch a specific Excel spreadsheet, using a
shortcut, when I ran Win 98.

Now, with XP2 home edition, I haven't been able to figure out how to do it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think that the shortcut under Win 98 looked something like:

"C:\Program Files\Excel\Excel.EXE -c:\files\filename"

Many thanks.

Hi

If you want to launch the file from the Desktop - find the file in Windows
Explorer, then right click on it and select Send To>Desktop (create
shortcut).

In Excel use Help and look up "startup switches" for proper syntax.

Easier yet.......

Right-click on Desktop and New>Shortcut>Browse.

Browse to your file and hit OK.

You now have a shortcut which will open Excel with the workbook.

Nope. That has to be like:

"C:\Program Files\Excel\Excel.EXE" "c:\files\filename.xls"

(note where the double quotes are). Or simply create a shortcut to the
specific *.xls file: Windows itself will launch Excel to open this file then.
