last page removal issue

Hi,

I have a word document report that has a blank A3 paper size page at the end
of it. The rest of the document are in A4 size. My aim here is to try to get
rid of it. I have tried to understand the article
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/BlankPage.htmbut to no avail. I have got
rid of both the footer and header by breaking the link on that last page. I
have also clicked on the hide/show button. There is nothing else on it. On
the second last page, there is a section break (next page) at the end of it.
When i removed it, all of the document turned into A3 paper size (just like
the last page). The formatting is stuffed.

I wonder if i could get your help on this. It really drives me crazy and i
need to get this report handed over by today.

Thank you in advance

With the insertion point in the A4 section, go to Page Setup. Don't make any
changes, but click OK rather than Cancel. Then move the insertion point to
the A3 section and press F4. This will repeat the document formatting you
just okayed in the A4 section (including changing the paper size to A4). Now
you can safely delete the section break.

Thank you Suzanne for your reply.

It does the trick (i can see the paper size from A3 turned into A4 - that's
what i want) but I lost the header and the footer for the rest of the
document. Have i missed some steps here?

Thank you in advance

Hi Suzanne

Nevermind, i used the copy and paste method to restore both the header and
footer. But just for curiosity, is this kind of normal that one would risk of
losing the header and footer if one follows the steps shown in the previous
thread.

Thank you in advance

Word has a habit of taking the subsequent Header & Footer information when it
comes to removing section breaks, don't know why but it does.
Suzanne's instructions are spot on (as usualy) but I tend to do one step
before the section break delete. After converting the section to A4, I would
go to the Header and Footer, in quick succession, I turn on and off the "Link
to previous" this brings over the layout/format you have in the preceding
section. Now delete the section break, and voila, no blank H&Fs.
You may find the following article very useful.

I'm sorry, but from my reading of your question, I thought you had already
taken care of the header/footer issue (you mentioned unlinking). The article
Dean references (http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WorkWithSections.htm)
does go into a lot of detail about this, and the very last part of the
article specifically describes how to remove an unwanted final section
break.
