Large space above endnote pages

In each of my end notes pages there is a large space at the top (about 4
double-spaced lines) before the first endnote starts. This happens on every
endnote page and I can't find an editing option that will reduce this space
so that the endnote will start on the first line for each page. Help! I
need to get my book manuscript in asap and this is one of the last things
that is holding up my submission.

(1) Turn on Show Non-Printing Characters (Ctrl-Shift-8).

(2) Maybe there are blank paragraphs in the header for the endnotes
section. If so, delete them.

(3) Maybe the Endnote Separator has gotten misformatted. Go into
Normal view (Draft view in 2007) and choose Show End(Foot)notes. At
the top of the endnotes panel is a dropdown. Select "Endnote
Separator" and click Reset. (This will return you to a line in a box,
for which there should be no need if your endnotes start on a new
page! You can simply delete this line.) Note that the paragraph style
containing the separator is normally set to Normal. You can change
that to any style you want.

(4) Do the same for Endnote Continuation Separator. Here there's no
reason at all to keep the line, and it would be wise to not even leave
the paragraph as Normal (which will add a line or so of blank space at
the top of the page) but to create a new style with Line Spacing of
Exactly as small as it will let you do, and Font Size as small as it
will let you do.
