large negative/transp scans

I am looking for a scanner that I can use to make "contact sheets" of my
negatives and slides.
I was able to trick my Microtek flatbed into scanning a full 8.5x11 page by
placing a light box on top of the negatives and using the negative function.
However I had a very hard time getting the microtek to work, and got rid of
it.
Is there another inexpensive scanner out there that I can do the same thing
with?

You might look for a used Microtek E6 with the full light lid. You
don't mention which model Microtek you had, but my E6 is still going
strong. But it's just a 600 ppi scanner....

The epson expression 1600 series have full 8x11 transparency adaptors.
New ones are still expensive, but there are lots of used and like-new
on ebay for very reasonable prices.
