Large LCD monitor behaves incorrectly at 1600x1200

I have two new LG 2010P monitors which are capable of
1600x1200. On Windows Server 2003 I can use this mode
with a Geforce FX5200 card and the monitor displays it
correctly.

On XP Prof (serv pack 1a) and a Geforce FX5700 the
monitor thinks the resolution is 1280x1024 and displays a
black border around the image. Since it isn't showing all
the 1600x1200 pixels some are cropped at right and below.

It's like, if it skipped the black border and moved the
upper left corner of the image to the upper left corner
of the monitor, everything would be fine.

I am using the DVI input. When using analogue input it
works even on the XP computer. But the picture is not
nearly as good as with DVI so I want the DVI to work.

Any ideas? Both monitors do like this and I have tried
them on two XP computers with different Geforxe 5700
cards.

Update the monitor inf file and your graphics card driver.

Microsoft Video Driver OCA Triage

Michael,
What driver revision are you running on the two adapters? There may be
a bug in the FX5700's driver for the DVI EDID detection. Try downloading
the latest driver from here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.64

If this doesn't fix the problem it could be the manufacturer of the FX5700
used the older 'cheep' version of the DVI out chip that only supports
1280x1024.

Hi!

Thanks for Your answer! I am running the nVidia v56.64
drivers and one of the 53 drivers on the other XP
computer. Surprisingly enough, it works with the FX 5200
graphics card on the Server 2003. Since that card
is "cheaper" than the FX 5700 and FX 5700 Ultra I have
problems with I was guessing the XP Prof was the problem
(as it works with standard drivers in Server 2003).

But maybe it is the chipset anyway, I can at least use
that information when I talk to the computer company and
LG.
