When turning on my laptop it seems the laptop is booting up but my
monitor for it never turns on.
I figure the probable problem is loose wiring or a short. though the
last time my monitor was up screen turned white with black stripes
through it. I have an Acer Aspire 1500. if anyone has any ideas how i
could fix it myself plzz help.

If you had a repair manual for your particular laptop and had the proper
tools and parts you could fix it yourself because, as you described, it is
probably a hardware related issue. Even loose wires (the ribbon cable to
the LCD) isn't easily replaced in the socket without the proper knowledge
and tool. If it under warranty, return it for warranty work. Otherwise,
expect to pay for the repairs.

To use the laptop you may be able to attach an external monitor to the VGA
port on the laptop and send the video signal to the new monitor. This is
also the first check that I would make to totally rule out the possibility
of the video adapter going bad. Once you attach and turn on the monitor, if
the laptop is currently on, press the key combination (Fn key and a function
key) to switch between the laptop's LCD, the external monitor and both. If
the laptop isn't on, turn it on and see if the indicator for incoming signal
(normally a colored light on the front of the monitor) changes colors during
bootup. Most, but not all, laptops will automatically detect an external
monitor if it is attached during bootup.

Good luck and let us know if this helps.

Since this is a hardware issue you really should post to a hardware
newsgroup.
