Laptop Speakers don't work anymore, but...

My Dell Inspiron 3800 laptop speakers won't work, but
using headphones through the headphone jack works. Windows
2000 Professional, 800MHz. I've already uninstalled and
reinstalled the sound driver, etc. Anyone have any idea
what's wrong and/or how to fix?

p.s. I've also uninstalled all audio plug-ins and
rebooted, etc. BIOS is also up-to-date.

Have you checked in hardware devices, specifically sound devices for any
errors.
I'm assuming you check any volume/sound controls - not muted etc
