Laptop only boots when undocked

I have a laptop that is having problems booting, but only
when in the docking bay. It locks up at the windows xp
pro splash screen while windows is loading. I can get it
to boot in the docking bay in safe mode only. I have
tried putting the laptop in an identicle docking bay, same
problem. I have put another known good xp laptop of the
same model in the problem laptop's docking bay, and it
does not have the problem, so I can be sure it has
something to do with the laptop alone. I also have tried
system restore, deleting and recreating the hardware
profiles, and a repair install. I also updated the bios.
The upgrade advisor found no incompatibilities with the
hardware in the laptop. I have loaded at least a dozen
other laptops in the company just like this one and never
have seen this problem. Also, there are no errors in the
event logs. Any other things I can try? Otherwise I just
need to reload it over again mabey? Is there a Step by
step confirmation boot option like windows 98 had? When I
hit f8 at boot, I do not see it in the safe mode menu.

Compaq Armada E500
PIII 700mhz
256mb ram
20gb HDD

I'm still messing with this and the funny part is that
when it locks up in the docking bay loading windows xp, it
locks up on the screen where it says "Windows XP is faster
and more reliable than ever!" LOL!

Anyone have any suggestions about this problem? Thanks.
