lag and skipping during use

so im making a movie about 9 minutes using Fraps, and i have LOTS of edits
and Effects, but sometimes in the movie, it just starts lagging and skips to
the end, and other times in random places the screen freezes but the sound
keeps going. its insanly disturbing, because then i have to press Stop but
its laggy so it takes a while then watch it over again. then the next day
the clip works and then another day it doesnt. how come its so laggy and the
clips mess up randomly?
