Hard OCP have reviewed the Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD, which is part of Kingston's value range. Here's what they thought about it:

"One of the first thoughts that came to mind when testing this Kingston SSDNow V300 drive was the fact that this SSD performed so much better than typical 'value' SSDs.

SSDs that are of low capacity tend to suffer low speeds, and usually manufacturers do not sample these small capacity SSDs for this very reason. With a desk full of 240GB SSDs, and virtually no 120GB SSDs to compare the Kingston SSDNow V300 to, we knew this could become a very unfair test. We did remove some of the flagship SSDs from the test field to keep the tests as "fair" as possible.

The performance of the SSD overall was very solid, with decent results in our latency testing and comparable steady state synthetic performance to the TLC equipped drives. In our mixed read/write steady state testing the V300 managed to pull off great results that overcame the Samsung TLC 240GB SSD.

In our trace based testing the V300 managed to hold its own against the much larger and more powerful SSDs, even besting them in a few categories. The V300 is well suited for users who handle media frequently, such as video, pictures and music; this is due to its impressive sequential read and write speeds.

The power results brought no surprises, with a low overall power consumption that would make this SSD well suited to mobile applications..."
