Hi,

I'm using Win XP home edition on a laptop (sky) with a standard us-keyboard
with 101-keys. During typing however I seem to be hitting some kind of
keystroke (quickkey/speedkey/keycombination?), which switches my keyboard
from the standard us keyboard with the [@] above (uppercase) the digit [2]
to the keyboardtype where the [@]-key is (physically) in front of the key
for the digit [1].

Some other examples:
- the [:] is on the same key as the [;] as uppercase [;]. When switched the
[:] will switch to the position of uppercase [.].
- the [?] is uppercase to the [/] and in the lowerrighthandcorner of the
keyboard. When switched, it changes place with the [-]/[ _ ] - key on the
upperrighthand corner (below the f-keys).

Since this happens quite a lot during work, it can become a pain and I'm
looking for a solution. Sometimes, it reverts back, during work, so I'm
figuring that I'm probably (unconsciously) hitting some kind of
key-combination, which changes the keyboard-layout. Does this sound familiar
to any one of you? And do you know the key-combination?

Thanks, RSJ

Rabhin,

It sounds as though you have more than one input language and keyboard
layout set, and are toggling between them inadvertently as you type. To see
if this is the situation, go to Control Panel, Regional and Language
Settings, click the Languages tab, then click the Details button. The
installed services window will show you the input languages and keyboard
layouts you have installed. Clicking the Key Settings button will show you
the key combinations that are being used to toggle between the layouts. You
can use the Change Key Sequence button to either, change the key sequence,
or remove it altogether by unchecking the Switch input languages and Switch
keyboard boxes.

Please post back if this doesn't help.

Hi Mike,

You were absolutely right. I'm using two inputlanguages Dutch en English,
but windows somehow doesn't seems to grasp that my keyboard won't change,
when I change to either of these. It installed two different IME's for each
inputlanguage and hitting (left) ALT and SHIFT caused the (inadvertent)
switching.

Thank you so much for solving this annoying problem!

You're welcome, Rabhin. I'm glad you got it fixed.

Good luck,

Mike
