Keyboard not matching symbols

Hi,My new PC is running Windows XP home edition on an
ACER tower. There are several keyboard stroks that do not
match the symbol printed on the keys. For example shift /
2 displays a @ sign not speach marks and the # key
produces backslash. I cannot find the GB pound sign any
where. The key stokes seem to match the on screen
keyboard in start / accessories /accesability. Is this an
XP issue or an Acer issue.I am not very technical so
please do not send me into bios or dos or regedit.
Keyboard drivers were uninstaled and reinstalled but
nothing changed. Thanks in anticipation. Steve.

Hi, it's due to your keyboard settings
go to control panel > regional and language options > Language tab > details
Change the Default input languages to English(UK) Apply and ok

If you dun have the selection there, add it in under the Installed Services
