keyboard and mouse functionality issues

I am currently have problems with my mouse and keyboard. It started out
playing America's Army last night. I shut down the game to type an email to
find that none of the keys worked as they should, i.e. the letters and
numbers, and the keys that did work were almost like shortcuts. For instance,
pressing "P" would bring up the print menu and "i" will indent on something
like notepad Shift and caps lock are reversed (forgive the shoddy
puncuation) and the mouse itself highlights items< as if you were holding the
shift and clicking>
while i was in notepad i hit esc several times out of frustatration and got
the limited typing capability i have now which brings me here> did i trigger
some sort of shortcut layout on my keyboard< and how would anyone suggest i
restore functionality to my mouse and keyboard?

have you tried restarting your computer?

I restarted my computer many many times. No luck yet...
