key board keys cap lock and num lock have become random

I am getting constant problems with my keyboard. Sometimes it works OK and
types what I the keys are, sometimes keys don't work at all. Sometimes the
number lock key works then it doesn't. Sometimes when I type the print
randomly goes between upper and lower case letters.

Also if I press the mouse key then I find I have highlighted the entire page
and by pressing the mouse key again I can't remove the highlighting.

Please please help me remove this issue so I can work again!

First find out whether the problem is:
A. In your keyboard
B. In your mouse
C. In your PC hardware
D. In your PC Operating System.

The easiest say to test options A and B is
simply to plug in another keyboard and/or mouse.

Thanks Don,

I'll try this when the house is awake - its 4:30 am at the moment.

The keyboard seems to work ok when typing in this window. However when I
was trying to put in my password to get back in to this window my keyboard
was playing up again. The number keypad didn't work at all in terms of
typing numbers (with the num lock on) but did do PgDn and PgUp on the 3 and
the 9.

Here is what I got with the numbers above the qwerty keyoard with shift on
and shift off:

!@#$56&*()
!@#$%^&*()

for some reason the numbers 5 & 6 worked but the other characters were the
same as when the shift key was not pressed. Below is what I should have got
with the shift key pressed

!"£$%^&*()
1234567890

Qwerty keys

Shift held down (no Num Lock)

!@#$%^&*()

Shift not held down (no Num Lock)

1234567890

Shift held down (no Num Lock)
Caps Lock on (no Num Lock
!@#$%^&*()

Shift not held down (no Num Lock)
Caps Lock on (no Num Lock)
!@#$%6&*()

Number pad

NUM LOCK ON (WRITTEN WITHOUT A CAPLOCK ON OR USING SHIFT!)

no numbers can be used on the numbers pad but the 1 works as END and the 3
works as Pg Dn the 7 works as HOME and the 9 works as PgUp
