kernel32.dll - entry point not found

Mike

I have an older program that I'm trying to install on
XPpro. Whenever I try to run the install program I get a
window that pops ups and says:
Impression2.0 Installer.exe - Entry Point Not Found
<red circle with 'x'> The procedure entry point could not
be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

From what I've read, this program is too old and that I
should get an update from the distributor. Well guess
what....I did get the updates but you have to have the
original installed first.

As another twist, I also have a system running XPhome. The
above program installs just fine and even runs without any
of the updates.

I did the sfc /scannow thing. No change.

Any help to get this running would be greatly
appreciated. :)

Since you didn't mention the name of the program, anyone reading this
group who has the program can't give you specific advice. There is no
way to tell why the program installs on your Home box and won't on Pro
without looking at the differences in each. The vast amount of
hardware/software combinations available in pc's makes tracking that
sort of thing down quite difficult. Since the program mftr. is
apparently still around, you should contact them regarding the
necessity to have the original program installed before installing the
update. Perhaps they have a workaround or a place for you to look at
settings.

I gave the name of the program in my description of the
window that pops up.

From original post:
Impression2.0 Installer.exe - Entry Point Not Found
<red circle with 'x'> The procedure entry point could not
be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

In case somebody misses it again, the program is
Impression CD-Pro. It works in 95, 96, Me, NT, 2000, and
XP Home. It does not work in XP Pro. The only thing the
manufacturer has is updates to the original prgram. There
are no new "clean" installs.

Sorry that I missed the name of the program in the original post. After
all, there are at least 1,000 new posts in this newsgroup every day,
but I should have reread the thread more carefully. Anyway, it sounds
like unless someone else uses that particular program and has an answer
for you, the only way to find out why it works on one box and not
another is to carefully compare each computer to see if you can find
the difference. Since HE and Pro are basically the same os, perhaps
there are some subtle differences in the user groups and permissions
that you've missed. Have you looked for any user groups for this
program? I actually Googled this search term:

"Impression CD-Pro" why not run on XP Pro

and got quite a few links that look like they might be good places for
you to start looking for answers.

Good luck to you,
