Kernel Fault Check

A new entry has appeared in my Startup File:

KernelFaultCheck %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

What is it and do I really need it in the Startup File?

I've read several web squibs, which were not very informative.

Using Windows Professional XP SP2 and Microsoft Windows Defender (Beta 2).

Perhaps the latest upgrade of Windows Defender put it there?

I do believe that has to do with the memory dump on error, you can disable
it (I did) and it still boots just fine.

I wonder...

System properties (winkey + pause/break)
Advanced
Errors > settings...
Disable the dump entirely (not recommended but if you're bored)
And it /might/ go away on its own?

I've never TRIED the above but I'm pretty sure that's what spawns it as a
startup item.

Perhaps you installed some piece of "free" software from a dodgy website which is now causing problems.

I have this exact same thing in mine, only when I login after startup, this
prevents explorer from starting properly. Basically I'm just looking at my
wallpaper. I have to use ctrlaltdelete to start up the Tast Manager and
manually shut down and restart explorer.

However, my issue is that I can't make it go away! I've disabled error
reporting in the system properties box but it stays. I've disabled it in
msconfig but in renenables itself. I've deleted the registry entry that
corresponds to this startup item but it puts itself back. Any ideas?
