Kernal Memory K, Windows 2000

My Machine
RAM 1024
HD FREE 20 GIG
WIN 2000 (SP$) BUILD 2195

When I change the virtual memory (PAGE FILE MEMORY) for
applications/background to say 4000MB ( ie max allowed is
38 GIG) the Total Kernel Memory/Paged/Nonpaged in the task
bar show up as a negative number. (ie the 4000 MB is
greater than my RAM of 1024). BUT when I have a vitual
memory of only 1000MB the above mentioned negative numbers
are positive numbers.
QUESTIONS :
1) WHY OH WHY ????
2) Does the positive or negative numbers affect the memory
commit figure ????

If you're running Win2K Pro or Server, it's limited to a total
of 4GB combined physical and virtual memory. You won't
get higher numbers reported anywhere in Windows because
it doesn't use any more than 4GB.
