Keeping Team Scores

J

JCO

I have a website for a soccer team that is going to have a tournament. They
want me to display all the teams.. who plays who & the scores ... as they
move through the brackets.

What is the best way to do this?

J

JCO

I was thinking.. of how to do it in FrontPage.
This looks like a separate website where all the work is done, then my site
points to it (like www.eteamz.com)

I want to figure out what FP2003 has.. that I can do it by adding a
"Tournament Page"

Just create a page w/ the teams and scores and edit it / publish updates when the results change

I guess ..what I'm thinking is more on the graphics end.
Is there anyway to draw the brackets and keep scores on the brackets as
teams move forward towards the championship.

Any way to draw the brackets?

S

Stefan B Rusynko

That gets more complex
You could create a table w/ your names and line images in the cells as connectors
Or in text
Team1
--------- Winner 1
Team2

Then it might be better to draw it out on an excel spreadsheet and have the
page open to it.
The only issue then would be if everybody has excel?

Server doesn't allow Access database. Will allow MySQL, however, not sure
I'm talented enough to learn that at this point.

If you have a good graphics package like Fireworks, it is an easy job to draw
the brackets, type in the names and scores, etc,

Then save the image as a gif, import into FrontPage and make an .htm page where
the graphic shows.

Then just update the graphic as the scores change, re-import into Frontpage and
publish the updated results.

J

JCO

Yes, that is kinda where I'm heading. I don't have Fireworks, but thought
Excel would work.
I have Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator 9, but don't know either packages
well enough. Seems Illustrator would work well. I will look into it more.

You would think FP would help in this area a bit.

Thanks.

Illustrator will work fine. All you have to do is draw a bunch of lines and add
text. You can probably quickly figure out how to do something simple like that
with Illustratror just by opening the program and drawing a few lines.

To make it easy on yourself find the "snap to grid" settings -- that will make
it easy to draw horizontal and vertical lines which is all you need. In fact if
I remember correctly there may be a setting in illustrator that forces lines to
be either horizontal or vertical.

And when you draw a first horizontal line, select it, do ctrl-c to copy it,
ctrl-v to paste it, then move it to where you want the second one, and then
keep doing ctrlp-v to paste in more lines for your brackets.

It will be easy.

J

JCO

Thanks for the confidents, I will give this a try.
It's just clunky having to update Illustrator and exporting to FP each
time...which will be done many times during the tournament. Oh well, thanks
again.
