Is there any way to export a query or a report to an excel file and keep some
kind of formatting?

Can I format my excel file and export only to the "data" cells?

No.

Within quite strict limits, yes. See "Export to Excel range" at

In general, though, to have control over the formatting you need to
write VBA code that automates Excel to put the data where and how you
want it.
