KB925398 - Why do we need it?

C

][ce

This past Friday, I downloaded and installed several high-priority
updates from Windows Update. I am running XP Home SP 2.

The following was one of the displayed items:

Downloading Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 (KB925398)
(update 4 of 6)

Why do we need a security update for Media Player 6.4 when we're
running Media Player 9?

Look in the FAQ section of the security bulletin for why.

Because the Media Player 6.4 is part of WinXP as well.
Start > Run: MPLAYER2

Thanks to everyone who answered. I should sought out the security
bulletin and read it to begin with.

You're welcome. I had the same question, but I always go to WU manually,
choose the custom scan option, read the bulletin or KB for each suggested
update, and then decide if I want it. So I had read the FAQ section about
this one.

This doesn't have any connection with the OPs question. Even with WMP11,
this patch is needed since MP 6.4 is still on the system when WMP is
upgraded.
