KaZaA Lite ver.2.0

Anthony Diodati

Hello, New to group,
Is KaZaA Lite Gone or something.
I was running ver.2.0, but the last few times I tried to use it, all I get
is the
"connecting" message at the bottom, and it just stays like this, and the
"search" button is grayed out.
Did they do away with KaZaA Lite ?
thanks, Tony D.

I have never used Kazaa, Lite or otherwise, but something about Kazaa in
the latest Spyware Info Newsletter just caught my attention.

There has been another startling revelation about Sharman Networks and
their Kazaa software. Apparently, the program logs information about all
user downloads and search queries over the network and transmits that to
the company.

In theory, Sharman can do a search for every user and IP address that
has downloaded a particular file. If Sharman can do that, then so can
anyone who is suing them, such as the RIAA.

Yet another reason to avoid Kazaa like the plague.

Kazaa is already useless, IMHO - it was taken over by corrupted files.

I believe this refers to Kazaa, *not* Kazaa Lite which does not contain
spyware/malware apparently.

The same thing happened to me some time ago for reasons unknown. I switched
to Shareaza (www.shareaza.com) and recommend it to anyone who has problem
with Kazaa, as well as to those who haven't :).

Yes, you are correct--Kazaa lite does not contain the client side code
to do this, AFAIK. Specifically, it does not have topsearch.dll and the
other dll, clint something. These dlls are what send data back sharman.
They ARE the spyware. Kazaalite does not have these dlls. And you can
see that because they do not connect to altnet. They do not get the
gold files. What this kazaa-sharman court document tells us is that the
Kazaa Media desktop is what contains this functionality. Well, the
2.4.* versions of kazaalite do not even contain KMD.
