K8V se sucks

I tested the Asus K8V se with AMD3400 cpu and Corsair twinx 1024.

- 98se is not usable any more. On my A7V8x with 768mb memory
and MaxFileCache=224288, 98 worked fine. I now have to add
in system.ini [386 enh] MaxPhysPage=30000, which leaves not
enough workspace in conventional mem. Dos chessgames don't
work any more.

- 2000 new install or a ready install: On my A7V8x, I could copy a
full DVD in 15 minutes, with the K8V the indicationlight on the
DVD burner is blinking and it takes 26 minutes to copy a DVD.

- Only if i use xp, i can Copy a DVD in 15 minutes like before under
2000 with my A7V8x board, and with continues indicationlamp
burning with no blinking. So XP works fine on this new K8V se.

I am a 2000 user with sometimes changing the removable mobile
hd into 98 for dos chess games, and i do not like xp at all. With
2k i tried with and without the right aspi drivers and with and without
the right ide drivers for the Via chipset. But DVD copy stayed worse.

Also, before with my A7V8x board I used 2 hd's as 1 master on the
1st and as 1 master on the 2nd ide, with both a DVD burner, resp.
a DVDrom as slave and could make Ghost hd backup images.
Now, with the K8V se the Ghost images couldn't be restored,
because of bad sectors detection. Only if I switched the configuration
to both the hd's on the 1 ide and both the DVD drives to the 2nd ide,
Ghost worked well. But the Nero program doesn't advice the both
DVD drives (DVDrom and burner) on the same ide port.

I do not want to be forced into an XP user by this K8V se board.

Dude,

Get a grip, I was a previous user of 2000 and XP is a huge improvement
over 2000. Once SP1 was released,
our IT department switched all systems from 2000 to XP and we have a
multitude of different programs we run on the systems. As far as your
particular system setup, sounds like you may just have a lemon board of some
type....I have a similar setup to use with the exception of memory, as I use
OCZ enhanced latency series with no issues in ghost backups, but I am not
running 2000 on my home machine either, I'd recommend RMA'ing that board
just in case it has some problems
