JVC digital video camera

Hi,
I am trying to connect my JVC GR-DVL-9700 to my pc but when I try to capture data I get the message "connect error". The software which came with the video camera installed ok and I know that my serial port works as I have connected other devices to it without any problems. Can anyone help

The software that came with the camcorder and the serial port cable is for
the use of capturing STILL images from the camcorder, often called photo
shots. It is NOT designed for capturing video.... a serial port is MUCH too
slow.

You will need:

A firewire card or port in your PC. If you do not have a port already
installed, then you must purchase a PCI firewire card, correctly called an
IEEE1394 card.

A firewire cable to go from camcorder to PC. Ensure pin sizes are correct
at each end. A PCI card for a desktop PC usually has a 6 pin port. A port
in a digital camcorder is usually 4 pin. Built in firewire ports in a
notebook are usually 4 pin. So get the CORRECT cable.
