Just upgraded to Office 2007 Pro - BCM will not work

Two days ago I purchased the Office 2007 Pro CDs in a flash looking box. I
had to seek my lawyers advice on how to open it.

Loaded Office OK. Once I opened the box.

Went to load the 2nd CD - BCM 2007 - Not happy Jan!

OK I read all the help/support BS I can find. Follow it but still no joy.

Tried to load the 2nd CD three times now and counting. Each time it goes
through the process but indicates BCM 2007 not loaded.

In Outlook the "Help-Disabled items" shows IrisMS32.dll as disabled. Because
it interfers with Outlook. So OK I enable it anyway. Of course when I restart
Outlook it automatically disables it again.

Again in Outlook the "Tools - Trust Center - Add-Ins" shows under the
"Inactive Application Add-Ins" the BCM Add-in for Outlook and in the
description cell it indicates this Add-In is essential to run BCM within the
Outlook application.

In Control panel "Add new programs" the BCM program CD2 does not appear,
which is not good, yet if I look under Explorer I find the BCM files loaded.
Path: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business\Business Contact Manager"
with all (I assume all, because there are mobs of them) the files and
sub-folders showing.

Any clues world?

Vidar,

Thought I was onto a win there. Deleted the folder as suggested. Read all
comms on the link provided. The 2nd CD took quite a bit longer to load. Well
it didn't load in the end, but I was getting excited.

Basically no change.

As to looking at the log page suggested on the MS page, well !!!! that's one
long log and whilst its clearly in English most of it means absolutely
nothing to me.

I have not as yet gone down the route of uninstalling all office programs
and then reloading 2003 then the 2007 upgrade.

I have to say if I purchased an aircraft that did this I would be finding
myself a good lawyer. It just doesn't seem morally right to me for a User to
fork out a not insignificant amount of money, only to find the product will
not perform as advertised.

Anymore good ideas?

AJ

Hi AJ,

when you say "not load", are you referring to the CD not starting the
installation correctly, or that the install completes ok but the BCM does not
load into your outlook when starting it?

Reinstalling and upgrading office + BCM may prove to be the fastest way
getting back on track (remember to reboot after uninstalling before
reinstalling anything), I would certainly try that first.

Vidar,

2nd CD starts load process OK, but in the end it spits the dummy.

OK I have a few hours to spare over the weekend. I will uninstall all Office
products reboot reinstall and then upgrade.

I will let you know how that works out.

Should I get my lawyer mate (Who knows how to open those flash 2007 upgrade
boxes) to contact MS so that I know where to send my invoice for time wasted
now or wait until after this next round? :)

AJ

Vidar,

FIXED !!!! I owe you a beer.

Uninstall all Office 2003 & 2007 - Reboot

Reinstall Office 2003 but not BCM - Reboot

DO NOT SEEK Updates for 2003 from MS site

Load 2nd CD - BCM 2007 and FINALLY get to register the program etc.

That was painful. It took the better part of 1.5 hours (Not including the
other unsuccessful efforts to date) and I have a pritty smick PC. Feel sorry
for anyone with less grunt - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

Cheers,

AJ

Vidar,

Oh Boy! Spoke too soon. Long story today. Full of pain and disappointment.

OK, got All working yesterday as advised. THEN bang! I was hit by the VERY
VERY SLOW EMAIL DOWNLOAD prob.

Went to
www.roundtripsolutions.com/blog/2007/02/19/208/problem-with-outlook-2007-email........

Tried the tips therein.

No joy. So I thought, bugger it, I will just go back to 2003 without BCM and
get back to work. How wrong could I be? That was 6 hours ago. I just do not
appear to now be able to completely uninstall office 2007 or 2003.

My current situation is I have office 2007 loaded and other than OUTLOOK all
appear to work OK. So I thought OK I can play this game. I will use
Outlook-Express. No joy it still will not download anything with an
attachment of any size without timing out (6 min).

Outlook 2007 starts in safe mode but will not fully open before it crashes.

What I would really like to be able to do is to uninstall ALL Office
products IN FULL. I figure I can then reload starting with 2003. And if I get
that to work I might look for a refund on the 2007 upgrade (Not holding my
breath though)

Also that annoying new index thing with 2007 eats up processing power with
no obvious advantages. And again I do not see an obvious way of uninstalling
it.

HELP!!!!

Regards,

AJ
