Just moved from ME to XP - some things I want back

M

Meezulz

Love XP - very little need to reboot as opposed to ME.
However, these are the things I'd like to resurrect:

1. Status Bar - I have to click view/status bar every time I open Win.
explorer. Is there a default that will invoke the Status bar open when I
open Win. explorer?

2. Folders Options - I liked the ability to have a thumbnail shown in the RH
column of Win explorer. In ME I had the option to customise this for
individual folders. Can I do the same in XP? All I've found is ability to
have all folders the same (showing details) which is my 2nd choice but
individual thumbs were better (similar to preview in ACDSee)
In Folder Options/tasks there are 2 options but they don't change my
explorer screen at all.
Hope you can help.
Many thanks,

1. Open one Explorer window. Go to a folder. Set it up the way that you
want including the display of the Status bar (View> Statusbar). Then click,
Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to all Folders.

2. Folder Options> General. Mark box to use common task panes. If you do
not have a "Folders" button on your standard toolbar, add one by right
clicking on the toolbar and selecting Customize.

Now open Windows Explorer to a folder that has some images in it
(preferably not My Pictures for this example). Click the Folders button to
display Common Tasks in place of the directory tree. Click on an image
file. You should see a preview. If not, look towards the very bottom of the
common tasks pane and click the chevron next to "Details." That area will
extend and you should now see a preview image similar to what ME would show
using Web View folders.

The Folders button can be clicked again to toggle common tasks back to the
directory tree. Handy little thing that lets you bounce back and forth
between to these two viewing styles.

The reason I said not to use My Pictures in this example is because that
folder is customized. Basically same thing with the tasks pane showing the
preview but it has some extra goodies on there too. Check them out.

You can take any folder and go into its properties sheets and then to the
Customize page. There are several templates to choose from and among those
several a few different options for folders holding image files. Experiment
with these to see how they work. They're kind of fun.

Hi Meezulz,

1. After you turn the status bar on, click Tools - Folder Options - View
Tab and then Click Apply to All Folders.
This should make it so you don't have to turn the Status Bar on anymore.

2. You can access the Customize tab by right clicking the folder and
selecting Properties. Click on the Customize tab. You can then choose the
folder type that you would like. You can have thumbnails show up on the
left hand side of the screen when clicking on a file by expanding the
Details section in the Task pane.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Nico Tomacelli
