Junk Mail Alert

A friend of mine who uses Office Outlook 2003 gets this dialog whenever a
junk email arrives...

<<“Outlook has downloaded a message that appears to be junk e-mail. This
message was automatically moved to the Junk E-mail folder. You should check
the Junk E-mail folder frequently to be sure that you are not missing e-mail
that you want to receive.â€>>

I also use OfficeOutlook 2003 with high setting of spam filtering and do not
recall ever receiving that message. She asked me how she can lose that alert.
Would appreciate any tips.

outlook puts up a junk mail dialog the first time it catches junk email and
you can set it to never show again (check box above the buttons). It has
buttons that take you to junk mail settings.

I don't recall if this is the same dialog - is she using another junk
filter, such as one installed by Norton or mcafee?

Thanks very much for the reply, Diane. She was using the PC Cillin suite's
spam filter too, but I had her disable that. Already asked her if it had a
"don;t show me this message again" elective. Will letya know if I get any
more info on the matter.

Ancillary question, Diane. My friend disagrees, but what I think she did on
setup many months ago when that message first arrived was check an "always
send me this message" elective. In any case I have googled and emailed and
combed every program option I could find ( out of curiosity mainly) and have
no idea how to get rid of it for her.

Except to uninstall and reinstall Office Outlook 2003.

With a simple reinstall she wouldn't lose her email, would she? Or does she
have to back up her files to a CD or DVD before the uninstall reinstall
process.( no hard drive reformat involved)

Your time is much appreciated. Thanks.

outlook doesn't have an option for always notify me of spam... so I think
she is right :( It does have a 'do not show me again' option though. I think
the dialog belongs to another program - if you or your friend could send a
screen shot to me, I can tell you for sure.

uninstall /reinstall generally doesn't help - you could try a new profile
and see if the dialog keeps coming up.

Just talked with her on the phone, Diane ( she lives in Texas...I live in
Maryland). We're both mildly experienced with pcs but far from expert. Muddle
along learning a little as we go.

She says it is a brown rectangular dialog box with Microsoft Outlook Message
( or something like that) written on a blue avove the rectangle. I can
understand why you think it must be dialog from another program, but she has
no other spam blocking or email program loaded. Thanks for the info about the
absence of an "always show me this message" option. She plans to live with it.

In the meantime out of hurried curiosity I did something idiotic. From my
Outlook help menu I chose detect and repair. Even when it became clear it was
going to uninstall and reinstall I let it go, figuring my address book and
email files would be to import to the fresh program. They
aren't,,,lol....ayiyi..what a dolt. But I did get my mail running again, and
recieved just the message she did after the first piece of junk mail
arrived....EXCEPT as you said, I had the "never show this again"
option...hers do not. Appreciate your time..it remains a mystery...but now
one I wish I had never tried to solve ' - )

please pardon the many typos. Meant a blue strip across the top of the dialog
rectangle. And I meant that, foolishly not checking beforehand, I thought my
address book and archived email files from before the reinstall would still
be there for import into the new installation. They were not.

Again, thanks for your time.

I'll bet they are. She should search her hard drive for files ending in
".pst", being sure to enable viewing hidden files and folders either before
the search or as an advanced option for the search. If she finds any, she
can check it it (they) contains the old data by opening it in Outlook with
File>Open>Outlook Data File. No import needed (or desired, actually).

Brian, Thank You! Worked beautifully. ( I hadn't screwed up her files...I
thought I had screwed up mine by repairing...used my system as a guinea pig
to see if I could duplicate her experience with the message)

If anyone esle reads this in a similar situation, you'll find your old
emails and such down in the archives and personal folders.

Again, Thanks Brian. (And Thanks to Diane).
