JPG and Gif problem

Hi guys,

Hope one of you may be able to shed some light on this one for me as it's
causing me a headache!!

My machine has started displaying webpages in a strange way. It corrupts
the jpgs (colour flash, and groups of pixels missing) but the gifs are OK!
(This also happens in Media player!) (These are published webpages such as
google, msn etc., not ones I've done myself (ie bad HTML)

I've virus checked it, changed the graphics card, changed more drivers than
I care to remember, re-installed IE, repaired IE and cleaned out all the
temporary files!!

It's a Windows 98 SE machine with 160mb ram.

Any thoughts or pointers as to where to try next?

Thanks for the hint. I've finally managed to track the problem down to a
faulty CPU (bizarre I know!).

The machine has an AMD K6-2 400 Mhz which was renowned for this fault.

AMD have offered to replace the chip.
