Windows XP Home Edition, saving pix off internet (MS Internet Eplorer) results in extension of 'file' instead of jpg, jpeg, or bmp making subsequent viewing impossible with viewers I have. Occurs on year old laptop with pre-installed software and on desktop just installed Windows XP Home on. Tried emptying Temporary Internet Files. Problem does not occur with Windows 98.

Attempt open files saved as .jpeg off internet (MS IE), and which directory list show with a .file extension result in 'open with ?' dialogue box. Responding with MS Photo Editor (MS Office 97) results in 'unknown file format' error within MS Photo Editor. Opening exact same file from within MS Photo Editor results image correctly displaying. Saving from MS PE as .jpeg file results in a correct .jpeg file which subsequently works as expected. Observed on desktop with newly installed Windows XP Home Edition and on year old Toshiba laptop which came pre-configured with Windows XP Home Edition installed. Attempts save off internet as .bmp file produces same results.

Also, experiencing problem printing to HP1220C that was not a factor under Windows 98 and that is getting the print both sides feature to be recognized. Occurs both desktop and laptop. Printer is on a desktop running Windows 98, 2 other desktops running Windows 98 print correctly when added to home network
