JPEG Editor Corrector

Any software which can edit and/or correct errors in JPEG files?

I am not referring to GIMP, Paintshop, Paintbrush etc.. Or viewers like
IRFANVIEW etc..

I am referring to editing AND ESPECIALLY ERROR CORRECTING software for JPEG's
software which will try to correct errors in the JPEG which cause it to have
colors off, image misalignment etc..

Any thing like this out there.

Thanks.

Is there some sort of "one button does all" software that does this? How
would a program know what is an "error" and what was your intended effect.
(Image misalignment? Good luck with that. . .) I work extensively with
graphics and would love to find it this magical "error correcting" program.

Otherwise. . .

Check out DCE from Mediachance at:

It's essentially geared to colour casts, contrast and brightness. You could
also google for adobe photoshop-compatible plugins. Irfanview will accept
most of these.

All other recommendations I can think of are commercial.

When a colour is off, what is the correct colour?

When an image is misaligned, how do you realign it?

Not looking for a "one click button" approach.

Human interaction.

Essentially this would be a low level hex editor for JPEG's that would show the
original on one side, you would click on where the error is in the original and
then the program would offer some suggestions on what to edit the JPEG data to
possibly correct the error, and show a edited version next to the original. As
you change values it would update the result to show the effect and when you get
a good correction would allow it to be saved.

The errors I am referring to can be seen in an example here:

About mid way down there is an error in the JPEG data. This program would allow
this error to be corrected and recover the rest of the picture.

Nope, this is for files that don't have errors, and IRFANVIEW can deal with the
situations this program does.

Digital photography is more popular than ever, but pictures straight out
of your camera are often large files that take a long time to download
via the Internet, particularly with a dial-up connection.

Interactive JPEG Optimizer lets you trim the fat from your image files,
and compare them side-by-side. In many cases reducing filesize with
barely noticable reduction in quality. It allows you to work on batches
of images, visually showing you the results of compression and allowing
you to tweak brightness, color and contrast. It keeps you informed of
how much you have shrunk the file size, and how long it would take to
download on a standard modem.

Aah, you're talking corrupt data here. I'm not up on editing at the hex
level, but I don't think you're going to find what you are looking for. The
only suggestion I have would be to correct it at the "macro" level using
image programs -- not exactly easy in this instance.

Good luck in your quest though. . .
